A recent News Center 7 report about youth crime in Dayton also highlighted Victory Project’s efforts to give local youth positive opportunities and a safe place to grow.
The report followed the arrest of two juveniles after a police pursuit. Dayton Police told News Center 7 that young people need more positive places to turn to, and Victory Project is working to provide that environment.
Creating Positive Opportunities for Youth
Victory Project works to address three factors that can contribute to generational poverty: dropping out of high school, getting a criminal record, and having a baby before marriage.
According to Ke’Shawn Miller, Senior Program Director, Victory Project addresses these challenges through education, entrepreneurship, and enlightenment while providing young people with a safe and supportive place to grow.
The report also shared an example of a young man who had been making poor choices and reached out to Miller after witnessing crime in his neighborhood. For Victory Project, moments like this demonstrate the importance of building relationships and giving young people someone they can turn to.
Victory Project currently works to connect with as many young men as possible and is also preparing to welcome girls through its doors.
As Miller explained to News Center 7, Victory Project is like a greenhouse: a safe place where young people can continue to grow throughout their school years.
